DESIGN STUDIO 1
PROJECT 1. SELF EXPRESSION THROUGH OBJECT

How the mask looked like from the front view

This presentation board contains design concept, design process and design element

PROJECT 2. LIFE CAPSULE
(TEAM OF 4)

In this project, they wanted us to make a mask that represents my self.
The purpose is to:
1. To explore the elements and principles of art.
2. To explore applying aforementioned principles to communicate subjective ideas through objects.
3. To introduce the basic methods of generating ideas and abstracting conceptual narratives for design.
My concept was the changing character in different enirontments as a coping mechanism of myself. I consider my self as a flowy person, meaning i always go with the flow of the society, which explains why i cannot stand up for myself. People says it's a bad thing but i consider this part of me as a coping mechanism to suit in to the environment like the tree in four season country, when the winter comes, it survives because it sacrifices the part of it's lives, which is the leaves.
Learning outcomes:
-
Draw students’ attention to subjective matters which play a major role in architecture
-
Produce objects to communicate ideas
-
To explore one form of generating design concept/idea
-
Construct a representational piece of art based on the initial ideas that have been abstracted and
redefined through the process of translation and interpretation.

The purpose of this project is to heighten the awareness about the human body, interaction of space and body, and explore the role of reasoning and logic in shaping the form. This project challanges us to thoroughly examine and consider anthropometry and ergonomics -body dimensions, body movements, human behaviours and user needs in a 12 cubic space.
In this project along with my fellow members; Crystall, Xin Hua and Vady, we first have to decide the purpose and to whom whould we design it for. We decide to design it for asian introverts with an average height of only 160 cm only. We were inspired by the HIKIKOMORI (the Japanese people who could lasts 6 months without going out from their room). We searched about introvert and what they need. And we found out that introverts loves to exclude themselves and to combine with the nature. They love to do one activity at a time like reading books that longs for the entire day. They are very insecure and intend to speak less. So we chose one of their need which is 'NATURE'. We create a garden and a pond inside of the capsule to make them feel peaceful by combining themselves with the nature. The details of the plan, anthropomethry and design process will be more explained in the pictures.
Learning outcomes
-
To explore objective parameters of design process through solving real-life architectural problems
-
Be able to distinguish and discern the role of scale and proportion in the relationship between the
human body and a designed space or enclosure
-
Understanding of human factors to the design of space (its size, shape, and how appropriate it is
for the task) to improve comfort, safety, and productivity
-
To explore the relation of form and function
PROJECT 3. DESIGNING A DREAM SPACE FOR DREAM CLIENT.

Before the project we are taught about the design principles, and we are required to design from vertical planes, horizontal planes, etc. In here i design an open art gallery from 30 pieces of horizontal and vertical planes.
we are required to choose one client that inspires us and design a space from the client's character, needs, etc. The size should be not more than 100sqm, and the height should not exceed 15 m.
I chose Salvador Dali as my client since he was one of my favourite painter when i was in high school. He inspires me through his paintings, and i wanted to put it into my design. The design intention is to make both an art gallery and a temporary working space.Titled: Dali Gali, since Gali means digging in indonesia and also it rymes with Gallery. It is a space where it could fulfills Dali's desire of being both an extrovert and an introvert. It is also a space where the guests will get to know Dali true self through the definition of spaces and his art works.
Learning Outcome:
-
Design a space that embodies and expresses an idea or conceptual narrative
-
Be able to identify, articulate and apply basic design principles in spatial organization and
relationships
-
Be able to create, articulate and illustrate the poetics of spatial quality
-
Be able to produce and choose wisely among variety type of models with the aim of generating and
developing design as well as better presentation of idea
-
Advance communication skills through sketching internal expression of space, diagrams and
variety type of models
