Community Service Initiative
Community Service is a form of service learning.
Service learning is basically using curriculum to help foster a sense of care and concern among students for their community and the world at large. This can be a village, an orphanage, socially disadvantaged individuals or a distant dying species.
In the process of student's recognizing and taking steps to meet the needs of others, student will enhance their creative, critical and reflective skills. More importantly, this module will help to develop personal and social responsibility. Students will learn through participation in a service experience and have the opportunity to use their skills and knowledge in reallife situations.

Students will be exposed to community needs and experience caring for others and learning about the resources available to them for revitalizing their communities. Finally, students will have the opportunity to develop basic knowledge and skills in community service strategies, avenues, and techniques, including the art of volunteerism.
Objectives of Project :
1) To inculcate a sense of Social Responsibility in students.
2) To promote the culture of caring and respect towards all members of society.
3) To make them responsible citizens of this country.
4) To understand the community around them.
5) To understand themselves in relation to their community

Our group decided to help Sam's Fur Kids & LassLost Animals Souls Shelter. This is due to higher interest in our group to help the dogs.

Workshops - Understanding the Dogs
Our very first activity is to get to know more of the dogs, so we came to Kuala Selangor to visit the shelter and help out the easy tasks given to us while we're there. Our first tasks was to help transfer the pavement, we did it all together and manage to finish it fast. The feeling of working together that time was so satisfying, it warms everyones heart.

After that, they gave us some time to cool down then they allow us to feed the dog. This activity is the one activity i've been waiting for. At first it was very scary because they all jump at us at the same time all together, but at the end the dogs are very friendly, they approach us softly so we can pat them and sayang sayang them. In a way this give me much emotional attatchment with them and motivate me to help them more.

The next two weeks, we came to another workshop at the shelter in Kuala Selangor. Basically this task is also to get to know more also. We were given the task to wash the dogs and remove the tick. For the first timer, this is a hard task. We didnt know how to properly approach the dogs and clean them, but Mr. Sam taught us one by one the steps until we are used to it. The satisfaction after we finish cleaning the dogs are overwhelming. Each one of the dogs were clean and its nicer for us to hug an pat them. The following task was to feed them- my favourite!!

Below are some pictures we took while we were on the workshop:

The Fund Raising
Our main idea to gain funds were to sell items that is useful and memorable at the same time. One of the items was a bag that had meaningful prints on it. The picture was a drawing drawn by an autistic kid that really loves dog. We asked for permission to use the drawings and we sold the bags hoping to spread the heartwarming stories behind each drawing. Another item we sold were badges with cute drawings on it, we put the name of the LASS facebook page on it hoping for the people who bought it to check the facebook page out and give the dogs some attention. These two items were selling HOT, a lot people liked it because there are meanings behind it.

Fund Raising Events
Our first fund raising event was located at Central Park, Bandar Utama. Some dogs were brought for the peopl there to be able to know the dogs and be aware of their exhistence, how much they are in need of our help. We walked around collecting funds, people pass by and come to approach the dogs.

The second fund raising was at desa park, at where lots of dog owner walk their dogs around there. A lot of people participate and keen to donate or buy our items, but at the middle of the fund raising the guards shoo us away and so we were forced to leave.

The third fund raising was at The School, Jaya One. It was an event organized by taylors mass com last year student. We managed to contact one of the organizer and book us a table. We sold most of the bags and badges, a lot people participate in donating.

The forth fund raising was only to clear the stock of our badges. We walked around taylors and create awareness of these dogs and encourage them to help us by purchasing our badges. We sold about 90 badges in one day.
